The country is comfortable to visit year round, but each season shows a different side of it. Here is what to expect and what to do.
Spring, March to May
Mild days, green foothills, and the Novruz spring festival. Look for wildflowers across the Caucasus foothills, Novruz celebrations in Baku, and easy city walking before the summer heat.
Summer, June to August
Hot on the Caspian coast, cool and green in the highlands. Head for the cooler mountains of Gabala, Quba, and Lankaran, spend long evenings on the Baku seaside promenade, and swim off the Caspian shore.
Autumn, September to October
Warm days, clear skies, and the grape and pomegranate harvest. This is wine and harvest season in the foothills, good hiking weather in the Caucasus, and the mild shoulder season many travellers prefer.
Winter, November to February
Mild in Baku, snow and ski season in the mountains. Ski at Shahdag and Tufandag, enjoy quiet sightseeing in the walled Old City, and warm up in the teahouses out of the cold.
